Military Aviation Authority regulatory publications (MRP)

Regulatory Articles (RA)

In numbers...

Across the MAA 1000–5000 Series, the Military Aviation Authority publishes 282 current Regulatory Articles containing 823 live, listed Regulations, covering the governance, operation, air traffic management, maintenance and Type Airworthiness of military aviation. At an assumed average of 15 hours to manually interpret and structure each Regulatory Article, understanding this body of regulation represents around 4,230 hours of specialist effort — more than two years of full-time working time. MaRIE is designed to remove much of that manual interpretation burden by turning regulatory text into structured, traceable requirements, allowing specialists to spend their time applying regulatory judgement rather than extracting requirements from prose.

1000 Series:

general regulations (GEN)

  • 70 Regulatory Articles

The MAA 5000 Series sets out the regulatory framework for Type Airworthiness across the life of an Air System, covering areas including design, certification, production, configuration and continuing airworthiness. For organisations designing or supplying technology into UK Defence, these Regulatory Articles can create important obligations and interfaces long before the equipment enters military service. Understanding where those requirements apply — and who is responsible for meeting them — is therefore an important part of bringing new capability into Defence.

  • 198 Listed, Live Regulations

Within the 32 Regulatory Articles sit 112 listed Regulations, supported by detailed Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) and Guidance Material (GM). This supporting material explains how regulatory intent may be satisfied and provides context for its application, but it also creates a substantial interpretation task for engineering teams. MaRIE breaks this regulatory content into structured, traceable requirements, helping organisations understand what is expected, identify the actions relevant to them and build the evidence needed to demonstrate compliance.
